The system of training and production subdivisions of the University consists of four experimental bases: training farm “Mummovskoe” located in Saratov region, training farm “Druzhba” in Yaroslavl region, Kalinin training farm in Tambov region, and experimental station “Mikhailovskoe” in Moscow region. |
Training farms differ in size, livestock number, climatic and soil conditions. Location of experimental bases in different regions of Russia helps students to obtain diversified and solid knowledge in agronomy, animal science, management and economics of agricultural enterprises and master professional skills during their training and productive practice.
Experimental bases of the University are large-scale farms and multiple-products farming. Production activities of training farms are technologically connected with practical students training.
On training farms the faculty staff has opportunity to conduct scientific research, analyze the results, and implement the best of gained knowledge into production.
The system of training and production subdivisions also comprises:
Botanical Garden (1.2 hectares of total area) with a hothouse. It provides regular tours for students, as well as scientific and practical training. The Botanical Garden exchanges seed material with 204 other Botanical Gardens and organizations, including 125 foreign ones.
- Laboratory of Floriculture (the open area of 5 hectares and the area under greenhouses of 3500 square meters) where the unique collection of indoors plants, ornamental shrubs, and trees is grown. Here students have their practical training on flowers growing.
- R.I.Shreder Dendrological Garden occupies 12 hectares. Its collection stock comprises 900 species, hybrids, and varieties.
- Research apiary that accounts 35 bee families.
- Horse show complex with 59 horses of 17 breeds.
- Zoological station with 30 milking cows, sheep, rams, lambs, and pigs. Besides there are more than 800 hens and chickens and about 900 quails.
Training and Research Center - the V.I.Edelstein Vegetable Experimental Station with the total area of 13.6 hectares, including 2.8 hectares of greenhouses.
- Landscape farming division with the area of 200 hectares including 8 stationary field experiments to study technologies of growing of agricultural crops.
- Michurin Garden (21 hectares of the total area) where 191 apple varieties, 167 pear varieties, 40 cherry varieties, and 40 plum varieties are grown. The total number is 536 fruit and berry varieties, and hybrids.
- Laboratory of Pomiculture occupies 27.9 hectares including 1.4 hectares under greenhouses. Rich collection of berries is grown here including 90 varieties of black and red current, 30 varieties of raspberry, more than 70 varieties of gooseberry, and 120 varieties of strawberry.
- Field experimental station with the area more than 20 hectares. More than 10 stationary experiments on problems of plant growing, selection and genetics of field crops are laid out here.
